Denim Days

A little post on my creations this Easter long weekend...  Something old and something new led me to create these cute little kids shoulder bags.  I have a decent sized fabric stash and decided to use a few small pieces up when I hacked into a pair of unwanted denim jeans.  From a boys (size 10?) pair of jeans I managed to make five little bags from the legs, and one bigger tote from the top section.

If I had the patience, I would have loved to have embellished each one with more trim & buttons etc, but they are for a small, local one off market where I can't really charge too much.  The bigger bag is for my eight year old daughter Charlotte, she's been wearing it around all weekend, just around the house, empty.  I'm going to add a sash to go through the belt loops and it can double as a headband in, ahh... hair emergencies.

My other little project was making a few more of these divine little birds.  They have no real intended purpose except to look pretty.  I suppose they would make good pin cushions, a baby mobile, just hanging by a window, or in a small bird cage.  I'm planning to try a few with little pockets on the front as tooth fairy cushions.  The template was drawn free hand, and the eyes are sewn on last, but the inspiration was from my Crafty Minx book by Kelly Doust.  Check out her website/blog.  The fabrics are a mix of new fabrics and up cycled bed sheets/pillowcases.  The buttons are all recycled from pre loved clothing.  Photo editing was done in Picnik (well worth getting the very inexpensive paid version, but you can do amazing things with the free version too!)

Hope you had a colourful & creative Easter too!

Don't forget to enter our giveaway which ends this coming Friday 29th April 2011.  See here for details.

We Love Camping!

This Easter long weekend we went camping in the Wattagans (1/2 hour drive from our NSW Central Coast home) for a couple of nights.  The weather was perfect, the bugs were few, and the camping & firewood were free!

The Easter Bunny managed a visit and left all sorts of chocolate eggs amongst the ferns for the kids to find.  And yes, I took handmade bunting flags camping!

If you ever happen upon this beautiful part of the world, the walk to the falls is lovely on the way down, but hell on the way up if, like me, you are less than fit.  Next time I will politely tell the hubby and kids that I will wait on the bench at the half way mark (with a book) for them to return.  Some freak was doing laps of the circuit!  We were like the tortoise and the hare, but slow and steady didn't win this race.

Craft Porn

Today I thought I'd share my favourite craft & sewing books with you.  But first I'll let you know why I use the term craft porn...

Where I work we have access to the internet but it's filtered.  Obviously we can't access any type of pornography, gambling, online auctions etc.  You also can't look at blogs which is where all the good crafty stuff is.

There are many craft sites I would like to be able to browse in my lunch break, but the dreaded red screen stating Unauthorised Access keeps popping up!  If I did a Google image search on anything naughty, I could get thousands of pages of soft (and not so soft) porn, but a site on how to use invisible zippers or sew blind hems?  No.

So now I call craft blogs and websites my craft porn.  I do have an unnatural addiction to them.... and they do get me excited...

And now to the books that excite and inspire me.  Two were gifts to myself for no reason what so ever, the other was a recent birthday gift from my two best friends.

The latest addidtion to my collection

The first book that inspired me to start collecting

A super pretty book that always cheers me up!

So there you go!  If you share my love of craft & sewing books, I'd love to hear about some of your favourites.  Just comment below to share.

Supermum

Yay!  Finally the weekend.  I recently changed from working 4 days a week in my day job to 5 days, so that means less time for sewing I'm afraid.  The weekends are the only time I have free now, and that precious time tends to be consumed by housework and running errands.  My three daughters also comand a bit of attention, and some days I feel like Supermum, others like Supermum tangled in the cape with the stockings around my knees.

Swimming lessons, grocery shopping and a family dinner are on the agenda for Saturday, and then on Sunday a morning tea with my dearest school friend who is visiting the Central Coast with her husband, daughter and four month old son.

I'm going to be optimistic and plan to sew at least three new items over the weekend to show you.  In the mean time here are a few photos of some other recent creations...

Library Bag

Bunting

Striped Skirt

Welcome!

I've decided to start this blog to tie in with the She Sews She Sells madeit store and Facebook page.  I hope you enjoy sharing in our creative processes, inspiration and finished products.

We will also use this page to run competitions every now and again since Facebook isn't very competition friendly...grrr.
